How do I clean my swarovski crystal necklace (small triangular beads)? It has gotten quite dull.?

I bought it 3 years ago, and it does not sparkle anymore like it used to. The beads are quite small, probably 3mm in length.

Swarovski Crystals: Anecdotes and Designer Cufflinks

Today, Swarovski Crystals, the choice material of world class jewellery designers. A sense of luxury is extended through sterling silver and enamels creating forms reflecting beautifully, textural influences at every angle. Natural light suddenly becomes part of the experience as it bounces off every facet of Swarovski Crystal.

If you’re a fan of Swarovski Crystal Jewellery here’s a little history? In 1892, Daniel Swarovski registered a patent for his machine that cut crystal on an industrial scale with greater speed and precision than the manual process. This was the start of one of the most sought after crystal production centres in art history. Daniel Swarovski founded his company in the Alps, named for his family, in 1895.

In the late 19th Century, crystal was regularly used to enhance formal evening wear. Crystal pieces were actually sewn into formal jackets and gowns. Swarovski took advantage of this fashion trend and in 1913; he created his own crystals exclusively for the fashion industry.

Always the entrepreneur, Swarovski used the storage of cutting machines and materials during World War I to enhance his business. For the war effort, Swarovski produced grinding and dressing tools that were used to process crystal stones and he marketed them under the name of Tyrolit from 1917 to 1919. Until about 1956, Swarovski would often use the innovations of his original crystal company by developing subsidiary companies which provided products for automotive and roadway reflectors, telescopes, and lenses.

By mid 20th Century, Swarovski returned to the work of jewellery-making and crystal promotion using special treatments to produce colourful effects within crystal. This new found popularity of Swarovski pieces made the firm’s crystal the desired crystal for famous chandeliers that graced such sites as the Metropolitan Opera House, major museums, and the castles owned by European monarchs. By the late 1960s, Swarovski stones were utilized in home design, fashion, and jewellery markets worldwide.

By 1976, Swarovski business expanded from that of a cutting, manufacturing, and jewellery production facility to a business committed to silver crystal as an end product for figurines and collectibles. The first crystal collectible sold by Swarovski was a mouse figurine. The mouse, a best seller at the Innsbruck Olympic Games, enjoyed prominence throughout the world. In the early 1990s, exhibitions featured Swarovski crystal and its crystal technology. In 1995, the company celebrated its 100th anniversary with the production of a prominent Swarovski century swan in silver crystal. In that same year, the firm opened its exhibition centre featuring a history of crystal and the Swarovski Company.

Max Schreck who is responsible for the popular animal line of fine crystal collectibles, Anton Hirzinger whose designs include the famous Swarovski trademark swan and the Centenary Swan, Edith Maier who joined Swarovski in 1990 and designed the Roe Deer Fawn, the Fairy Tales series, and the popular Sweetheart piece, Gabriele Stamey who designed Swarovski popular Columbine figurine, and Adi Stocker who is arguably Swarovski best known designer creating two major Limited Edition pieces for Swarovski crystal.

And the tradition lives on.

What can we learn from a Riedel (rhymes with “needle”) glass? That size matters, as does shape? That form following function has meaning for wine-lovers as well as designers? Or perhaps the deeper lesson that the contents of an outwardly “plain” glass may provide a more sensual, complex, and rewarding experience than those of a superficially beautiful one? The Austrian Riedel family has been involved with glass-making since 1756, but it was two centuries later that Claus Riedel conceptualized a glass made specifically to enhance the flavors and aromas of a designated wine. Through an involved process each style of glass is crafted to accentuate the strengths, while minimizing the weaknesses, of a particular spirit. This is done through changes in the size and shape of the bowl, the diameter of the opening and the cut and polished lip which directs the wine towards a specific area of the tongue. Small wonder Riedel stems are preferred by sommeliers and oenophiles world wide for their ability to transform the perception of a wine.
Austria’s Riedel is the world’s premier manufacturer of wine glasses. Made of 24-percent lead crystal, the Vinum series of glasses are the first machine-made wine glasses to be developed uniquely for each type of wine. The glasses in this set of six were specifically shaped to highlight the fruit in young, full-bodied red wines with high levels of tannin, such as Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, and Tempranillo. The mouths of the Bordeaux glasses draw wine to the areas of the tongue that perceive sweetness, emphasizing the fruit and mellowing the acidity. “Great wines glasses…not so fragile”

I have >100 Riedels and I use them as my everyday wine glasses. I love the difference it makes on the tasting of the wines. I have now done several demonstrations for my friends and they all agree that it really enhances the experience of tasting the wines.
As to their fragility…I have only broken 2 – a chardonnay and a burgundy one. I think those are more fragile.
I do handwash them, use very little soap and really only rub the rims…and most of the time I wash them right after the party. I find my experience very different than some of the comments

I have a lot of Swarovski crystals which were left by my nana for me. There are some big, some medium and some small but I have no idea how much to sell them for on Ebay!

Crystal and glass experts, come hither! Questions about cleaning displayed crystal, which brands, etc…?

I have just began to collect glassware and crystal (vintage and modern), and I have been doing A LOT of research. But it is all so confusing. I have heard Depression Era glass is best (most collectable, rare)… then I’ve heard Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) is, then I’ve heard EAPC is, (Early American Prescut) is..(I don’t even know what this one is!!??)

More of a cleaning expert than a crystal expert!
I do know that depression glass is easier to collect as there is more of it on the market, but it is worth less than it used to be for the same reason. There is also a lot of imitation depression glass so it is hard to tell the real from fake.
But on the cleaning part….I have always washed my crystal in hot soapy water with some white vinegar added in. The vinegar helps to cut grease and grime. I also rinse it with a bit more vinegar and hot water.
